Lauren Klaff Donates Books and Funds to Library

Instead of birthday presents, 10-year-old Lauren Klaff asked guests at her recent birthday party to make a donation to the library. Lauren collected $250, which she gave to the library for it's 21st Century Fund, a nonprofit corporation that has been set up to receive donations for the building of a new library, and for the purchase of some new books for the children's room: Nancy Drew books, Little Genie, and some sewing books.

Positively Poetry Kicks Off with Poetry Writing Workshops

Poet Jayne Warren will teach 2 poetry writing workshops at the library on March 18 for children in grades 3, 4, and 5. Jayne is a student at Smith College, and graduated from the Writing Studio at Walnut Hill School in 2008. She has published poems in numerous journals, including the 2006, 2007 and 2008 Blue Pencil, Walnut Hill's literary journal. Her poem, Chairlift at Nashoba Valley, was included in the recently published anthology Rough Places Plain, Poems of the Mountains, and she has taught several poetry workshops at the library in the past. The first workshop, from 3:30 - 4:15, will be for students in grades 3 and 4, and the second workshop, from 4:30 - 5:15, will be for students in grades 4 and 5. Review of Regarding the Trees: A Splintered Saga Rooted in Secrets by Kate Klise

This month's Massachusetts Book Awards Book Club met to talk about Regarding the Trees and to eat snacks! The book earned a unanimous 5 out of 5 stars from our readers.
